If something funny happens to your computer, there’s always the print screen button on your keyboard to quickly take a shot of it. Sure enough, it’s also used in testing, and the default function can isn’t quite practical against time. This is where specialized applications like ShootScreen come in handy to extend the default functionalities of the screenshot feature.

You can check out the application’s set of features in a short while, because the application isn’t going to take much of your time. However, you might want to make sure that .NET Framework is deployed on the computer you want to use ShootScreen, although modern Windows iterations come with it in the default set of features.

The first time you use the application, there’s a high chance you end up scratching your head, at least for the first three seconds. This is because the executable is merely a trigger for the general process, with the default value of three seconds. Only after this small time the main window shows up, with the full screen picture and several save options.

ShootScreen lets you set the time value in seconds to be the delay after the executable is launched, letting you prepare the scene. There’s an additional mode that captures the active window after the delay. More options are there to take another shot, or save the current one under formats like JPG, GIF, and BMP.

Unfortunately, all the application manages to do is slightly enhance the functionality of the print screen button on your keyboard, with the set of features leaving more to be desired. It would have been useful to see at least the possibility to have pictures automatically saved, or an option to trigger shots better through hotkeys.

Taking everything into consideration, we come to the conclusion that ShootScreen is a straightforward enhancement to the default way of taking a screenshot. The set of features leaves more to be desired, with only a few features that don’t considerably reduce the time it takes to record screen activity.
