A collection of 81 presets in 5 dynamic filters recreates the inexact mechanics of hand-cranked cameras

editor's review

Anyone can make a simple video, rendering nothing but the captured images without enriching the experience in any way. For elevating the movie file to a higher standard there are various tricks of the industry that can be applied but these are generally restricted to professionals that can walk a complicated path to achieve them.

NewBlue Film Effects is a collection of presets for various video editing programs that can transform a plain video into something else, that leaves the impression of a professional touch.

Extensive list of profiles

The package contains a total of five filters (Film Camera, Film Express, Film Damage, Film Pro and Film Color), all including about 81 profiles to choose from. With them, you can create various visual effects, from the jittery look associated with old camera devices to applying a vintage tint so that the footage appears aged.

During the installation process of the bundle you can choose the plug-ins that fit your video editing program. Among the supported suites there is Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Pinnacle Studio, Corel VideoStudio, Sony Vegas and Magix. For many of them there is both the 32-bit and the 64-bit variant of the add-ons.

Each of the filters comes with its own configuration options that help control the level of customization in order to imprint on the footage a look as close to the real deal as possible. You can also go over the top with the settings and obtain an effect more on the artsy side.

NewBlue Film Effects is a nice package with plenty of presets but it also provides the possibility to customize the result and save the new configuration as a new preset. It includes support for prominent video editing suites and it works on both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms.
