While many still prefer the look and feel of physical comic books, these publications are now commonly distributed in digital form; moreover, even older ones are often scanned and shared online.

Simple Comic Reader is, as its name suggests, a rather basic application that enables you to read comic books saved to several popular formats: CBR, CBZ, CBT and CB7. It doesn’t offer any advanced features, but it is easy to deploy and use.

Obviously, this application was not designed to rival advanced readers that offer a great deal more features. Rather, it was intended to provide you with a basic alternative that can be put to use instantly.

Once you have downloaded the archive, you only need to unpack it and launch the program. No installation is required, and the application can be run from any location.

The first thing you need to do is select the source folder; this is where the program will look for comic books, so just point it to the directory where your collection is stored. After they are imported, you can quickly select any of them directly from the main UI.

Simple Comic Reader offers a self-explanatory set of controls, as you can navigate through the comic book using the scroll wheel and arrow keys. You can’t zoom in or out, though, as the content is automatically resized based on the window’s width.

In a nutshell, Simple Comic Reader stays true to its name – it allows you to read your comic books on your PC, and it keeps things simple. It is not the most advanced application of its kind, that’s for sure, but users who are looking for something more straightforward will likely appreciate the app’s minimalistic design.
