Everyone takes pictures nowadays, especially since mobile phones are now fitted with powerful cameras. Sooner or later, they end up on your PC for closer inspection or editing, and there are several default tools in Windows. If you need a larger variety of options, then applications like Image Eye might come in handy.

Once installed, you’re free to run the application and view some pictures to see why and how it differs from what you’re already used to. The initial prompt asks whether or not you want to configure file association, but this can also be done later on. We can say that file support is a neat advantage, letting you work with formats like BBM, BMP, CUR, DDS, DIB, FIT, FITS, GIF, HDR, ICO, IFF, IMG, JPE, JPG, LBM, PCX, PIC, PNG, PSD, RLE, TGA, and TIF.

Opening an image directly from from the File Explorer brings it up in a simple frame that disappears and leaves just the picture when the cursor is not in the way. On the other hand, there’s the possibility to run the application from the EXE, which displays a customized open dialog, with options to filter formats and choose directories to view.

Although there’s no browse panel when an image loads, you can easily scroll through all files in that specific path. General options are accessed from the context menu on pictures, ranging from basic functions like rotate or flip, to various color management options through sliders, but offering enough variety.

Since the image opens up directly and you can scroll through the entire collection, there’s also the option to start a slideshow, with settings to either play it in a normal window, or fullscreen mode. Screenshot tools are included, and let you capture the whole screen or the active window. Sadly, there aren’t any options to convert to other formats, given the neat file support.

Analyzing pictures isn’t such a big deal, but it’s best to perform this activity in a powerful environment if the chance is given. Image Eye allows this to happen, with impressive file support, minimalistic design for quick accommodation, and an abundance of general and advanced editing options, making it worth your while overall.
