PGMView is a lightweight Windows application developed with a single goal in mind: to help users open and check out the contents of PGM files (portable graymap format).
Since this is a portable program, it is important to mention that it doesn’t leave any traces in the Windows Registry.
You can copy it on any USB flash drive or other devices, and take it with you whenever you to open PGM files on the breeze.
PGMView boasts a clean and simplistic layout that allows you to perform most operations with just a few clicks.
The tool gives you the possibility to upload files in the working environment using the built-in browse function, so you cannot rely on the “drag and drop” support.
Additionally, you can switch to a full screen mode for a better focus on your work. The lack of configurable settings can be good news only for rookies, as they can learn to master this tool with minimum effort.
However, more experienced users may find it pretty inconvenient to work with this app, as it doesn’t come bundled with any advanced features.
You are not allowed to zoom in or out, rotate or flip the image, apply cropping options, print them, convert the photos to other file formats, and use hotkeys.
During our testing we have noticed that the program uploads the pictures very quickly, provides very good image quality, and no errors showed up throughout the entire process.
As it would be expected from such a small utility, it remains light on system resources, so it doesn’t burden the overall performance of the computer, nor interfere with other programs’ functionality.
To sum things up, PGMView offers a simple software solution when it comes to viewing PGM files. It cannot compete with other powerful tools on the market, as it doesn’t offer support for advanced parameters.
