StarCodec

StarCodec is comprehensive codec package that comes bundled with various audio and video codecs. Its purpose is to help you easily deploy a wide range of codecs on your computer in order to be able to play various types of media files, be they videos or songs.

This is an installation program that requires minimal user interaction, actually only a few “Next” buttons in order to bring the process to an end. By installing this codec package you can get rid of the task of manually searching the Internet for the right codecs required for playing certain audio files or video items.

StarCodec gives you the possibility to choose the features that you want to install, and it integrates several profiles, such as Typical, Minimum, Encoding, Low Performance PC, Advanced, Full or Custom.

The aforementioned installation profiles contain more or less features, while the Full one is specifically built for deploying the entire package on your computer. The custom mode allows you to manually select the codecs that you are interested in.

The application offers support for several types of codecs which are grouped in different categories, such as Major (e.g. LAV Filters, DivX Decoder, DivX Encoder, Xvid), Video (e.g. WebM, x264 Encoder, CamStudio Codec), Audio (e.g. MP3 Encoder, MP3 Decoder, AAC, FLAC, MusePack, AMR), Filter (e.g. AVI Splitter, MP4 Splitter, Matrix Mixer, Matroska Splitter/Muxer) and Utility (MediaInfo, DivFix++, FourCC Changer).

You can view the space required for installing each profile, and the tool is also able to automatically calculate the space needed on your disk for user-defined codecs.

The program carries out the installation process pretty quickly but this depends on how many codecs you want to deploy on your system. StarCodec delivers a straightforward way for making sure you can open and enjoy media files on your PC.
