As its name implies, MKV Cutter is a simplistic program that allows you to split files with the MKV format. It can be easily handled by all users, even by the less experienced ones.
The interface of the application is based on a standard window. Video clips can be imported via the file browser only, since the "drag and drop" function is not supported. Unfortunately, you cannot cut multiple videos or more than one section from the same clip at the same time.
So, you can preview MKVs in a built-in video player, pause and stop it, navigate back and forth within the clip and adjust the volume. But you can also add subtitles and adjust the speed along with the audio and subtitle delay, as well as change the aspect ratio.
Cutting video clips is simple; all you have to do is move a slider and mark the start and end position (the time values can be verified). Once you specify the output destination and filename, you can proceed with the splitting process.
The video processing tool quickly finishes a task while using a low-to-moderate amount of system resources. It has a good response time and manages to preserve the original image and sound quality. On the downside, you cannot specify the number of CPU cores to be used or set MKV Cutter to close the application or to turn off the computer when the task is done. There is no help file available and the interface is outdated. All in all, MKV Cutter is a pretty straightforward application for video trimming.
