easyDCP Creator

easyDCP Creator is a feature-rich application that enables you to put together professional Digital Cinema Package files (DCPs).

The installation procedure doesn't take a long time to finish. Worth noting, though, is that QuickTime should be set up on your PC for this tool to work properly.

You can create a new project at startup by specifying the type between 2k (full container 2048 x 1080 pixel) and 4k (full container 4096 x 2160 pixel), use InterOp instead of SMPTE packing, and set the preferred framerate.

Wrapped up in a professional-looking interface, easyDCP Creator lets you add compositions with trackfiles made from pictures, sounds and subtitles.

When it comes to picture tracks, the supported extensions include 8-bit and 16-bit images, along with QuickTime movies (.mov) and Digital Cinema Picture Tracks (.mxf). Subtitle tracks can be loaded from Texas Instruments CineCanvas (.xml), SMPTE 428-7 D-Cinema Distribution Master (.xml) or SMPTE 429-5 D-Cinema Packaging Timed Text Track (.mxf).

Meanwhile, sound tracks can be imported from multi-channel container files (.mfx, .wav, .mov). Alternatively, you can load single-channel audio files from a standard stereo speaker, 5.1 or 7.1 speaker, or custom speaker with any number of channels.

The software application lets you inspect metadata concerning the annotation text, content type and title, creator, duration as timecode and in frames, issuer, and UUID. Moreover, it can be asked for check the source files for empty files, suspicious objects with small or large sizes, corrupt headers, equal resolution, and JPEG2000 DCI Profile Marker.

As far as general program preferences are concerned, you can set the default issuer and creator names, CPL content kind, along with the path the the log file. What's more, you can use JPEG2000 visual weightings to improve image quality, as well as set the maximum number of threads for 2k and 4k (separately).

We haven't come across any stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that the tool didn't hang, crash or prompt error messages. Surprisingly, it had a small impact on computer performance, using low CPU and RAM.
