Subeditor is a simple-to-use utility that lets you edit the subtitles of your favorite movies in order to make corrections or change the language, for instance. It doesn't contain complicated options or configuration parameters, making it suitable for all types of users.
After a rapid setup procedure that doesn't require special input, you are welcomed by a minimalistic window with a clear-cut structure which resembles Windows Notepad.
You can open subtitle files with the .ass, .ssa, .srt, .sub or txt. format, or create a new subtitle from scratch. Subeditor shows lines number and gives you the possibility to change the encoding method or make a text selection to copy it to the Clipboard.
What's more, you can make time adjustments and apply them to all lines, the selected ones or a specific range (set the start and end position), as well as synchronize time by adding or editing control points. Undoing and redoing your actions is possible. Too bad that Subeditor doesn't integrate an option for loading the corresponding movie that you can play and accurately make time adjustments.
The program didn't hang, crash or pop up error messages in our testing. Unsurprisingly, it consumed low CPU and memory during the entire time, so it didn't hamper system performance. On the other hand, it's quite difficult to make subtitle corrections if you can't view the movie at the same time. Nevertheless, you can give Subeditor a shot to find out if it meets your requirements.
