AVI Trimmer+

Formerly known as SolveigMM AVI Trimmer + MKV, AVI Trimmer+ is an advanced, yet intuitive video trimming application that you can use to cut out smaller sections from movie files, whether they have a large or small size.

It offers extensive file type support when it comes to video (e.g. .vob, .mpeg, .m2v, .avi, .mp4, .mts, .mkv, .flv, .h264) and audio files (e.g. .mp3, .wma, .wav). Subtitles are supported too.

The installation procedure doesn't take long. The app offers to install WMP Trimmer Plugin, a plugin made by the same developer, which adds media editing features to Windows Media Player.

However, since it's ad-supported, AVI Trimmer+ offers to download and install third-party components as well, so be careful not to rush through the wizard steps. You can decline the offers by deselecting all options.

It's wrapped in a clean and intuitive interface that asks you for a media file to get started. After loading the video contents in the main window, you can play the movie, preview random frames and zoom in a filmstrip to help you seek a specific position, as well as take JPEG snapshots. If the movie has multiple audio and video streams, then you can pick the preferred one.

Multiple markers can be added to the film strip to make cutout selections. It's possible to remove all audio from a specific selection before extracting the clip, slice movies by duration, size or into equal parts, change the time format, as well as to keep or delete any marked segments. The timeline fragments can be inverted. You can ask the utility to ignore any trimming errors during processing.

The only issue is that the developer is a bit aggressive when promoting its other products. In our case, it managed to also install SolveigMM Video Splitter Home Edition, although we didn't ask for it.
