Even though the Internet is home to any kind of media, news or entertainment, enjoying them in offline requires you to install a specialized application in order to run them. Universal Media Player is one of them and keeps all options to a minimum to ensure a comfortable experience overall.

Due to a clever optimization, the application takes little space on your hard disk drive and a considerably low amount of system resources. The interface is equipped with all features you need to start playback and enjoy your favorite movie or songs you fancy.

It supports some of the most commonly used formats. Importing a file is done either by dragging them over the main window or through the dedicated menu. An integrated playlist manager lets you save lists with frequently played elements.

Amongst the basic playback options, you are able to toggle a “Repeat” button, while the shuffle option only randomly arranges files from the playlist manager.

The application is limited to features mentioned above, with little to tip the scales in its favor. Unfortunately, there is no implemented hotkey support for more comfort, nor the possibility to minimize to system tray.

Songs can only be played as given, because of the lack of an equalizer to carefully adjust frequencies and fine tune sound.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Universal Media Player gets the job done as best it can with available features. It uses incredibly little system resources and the interface lets you quickly accommodate. However, it lacks the integrity of a worthy application to be used over long periods of time.
