QuickTime Alternative

QuickTime Alternative is an ultra-light version of QuickTime that bundles the essential components needed for playing MOV and QT files in the following web browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla, Opera and Netscape.

The codec collection included in this package allows you to play formats proprietary to Apple without having to actually install the QuickTime media player. The application also includes Media Player Classic.

In order to avoid installation errors, it is recommended to uninstall all QuickTime related products. Deployment requires your assistance only to select the components you wish to install. You are offered the Quicktime base components (ActiveX and browser plugins) and Media Player Classic.

There’s no interface attached to the program except a window where you can configure QuickTime options. Here you can configure audio preferences: play using safe mode or direct sound, set the sound output (rate, size, channels), and choose the music synthesizer.

With the help of QuickTime Alternative, Windows' Media Player Classic can become the default player for MOV, QT, and HDMOV files. MP3 support can also be enabled.

Please keep in mind that this is a trimmed down version of QuickTime and does not include products such as QuickTime player or Picture Viewer or any of the QuickTime Pro features for that matter. It’s a very small package that comprises only the necessary codecs to play files that normally you wouldn’t be able to process without QuickTime installed.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that QuickTime Alternative is, as the name suggests, a handy choice in case you have other preferences in media players. You need only install it and enjoy MOV and QT files differently.
