QuickTime may not be the favorite media player of some people, but it is needed when it's the only one that supports a certain type of formats (e.g. 3GP).

If you're too attached to your current media player and don't want to install QuickTime on your computer, then you need a better alternative... like an ultra lite version of QuickTime.
