XVID Player is a small and portable piece of software that, as the name says, can play video clips with the XviD format. But it also supports Audio Video Interleave files (AVI format).
Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can just drop the tool anywhere on the hard drive and run it directly.
Alternatively, you can save the app to a USB flash drive or similar storage unit, and run it on any computer. This way, you can keep XVID Player in your pocket whenever you're on the move.
More importantly, the Windows Registry is not updated with entries, and files are not left behind on the hard drive after removing the utility.
The interface of the program is represented by a standard window with a plain layout. Opening a clip is done with the help of the file browser only, since "drag and drop" is unsupported. So, you can use some basic media player functions, such as pause and stop, navigate back and forth the stream by using a slider, adjust the volume level, and switch to full screen mode.
But you can also create and save a playlist, use a search function when dealing with numerous videos, make the app remember the current playlist for further use, as well as change the aspect ratio and show all controls in the main frame.
XVID Player runs on a low-to-moderate amount of system resources, so it doesn't burden the computer's performance. It has a good response time, and there are no stability issues. We have not come across any issues throughout our evaluation, since the tool did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. Thanks to its intuitive layout and overall simplicity, first-time users can rapidly get accustomed to XVID Player's features.
