Scan IP addresses using Whois to find out the owner, originating country, network name, email, phone number, and any other available information. #Host information #Whois address #Trace host #Whois #Search #Find
Every computer that’s connected to a network or the Internet is fitted with its own IP address. In fact, this is how machines recognize themselves, unlike we do by name. In case you want to find out more details about a specific IP address, either from the web or your network, then WhosIP might just help you out.
Since it’s a command-line utility, it doesn’t need to be installed on your computer for it to work, which means it can even be used from a USB flash drive on other PCs as well, while system registries remain intact.
Just like any external command-line utility, this one too needs to be accessed from the Command Prompt, but it’s best to run it with administrator privileges if you want to properly grab all details. Once launched, the command first shows all supported parameters, and even provides an example so you don’t get stuck along the way.
Needless to say that you need to know the target IP address for everything to work out fine. Apart from this, you can specify SOCKS4 and SOCKS5 ports in case proxy is used. Moreover, adding a single specific parameter displays the default WHOIS results, without any details the application is specialized in.
Running it under normal conditions takes only a little while to retrieve results. As such, you get to view WHOIS source, address, country, network name, owner name, from and to IP addresses, whether or not it’s allocated, contact name, physical address, email, abuse email, and phone. Exporting needs to be manually done, because there isn’t a built-in function in this regard.
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that WhosIP is a practical utility that aims to extend the functionality of the basic WHOIS command-line provided by Windows. It manages to live up to expectations, coming with a few extra parameters to succeed in different circumstances where proxy is used.
