Jimmy's Magic Packet
Jimmy's Magic Packet is a free and lightweight software application which remotely wakes up computers connected to your network via LAN. It can be seamlessly used, even by individuals with no experience in such tools.
The app is wrapped in a small interface with a standard layout. The basic "what you see is what you get" concept applies to Jimmy's Magic Packet - there are no hidden options available, since all features are visible in the main program frame.
In order to wake up a computer, you must find out its MAC address, type it in, and press a button. Just keep in mind that the wake-on-LAN option from the remote computer must be enabled in the Power Mangement area of BIOS.
In addition, Jimmy's Magic Packet allows you to save MAC addresses if you plan on waking up the same computers in the future. These details can be deleted as well, after selecting the computer name from the drop-down menu.
The program barely uses system CPU and memory, so it shouldn't be a burden on your computer's performance. We have not come across any issues during our evaluation; Jimmy's Magic Packet did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs.
Due to its limited features, advanced users might not be thrilled with the app (for example, you cannot wake up multiple computers at the same time or schedule a task). But novices should find Jimmy's Magic Packet easy to work with, thanks to its overall simplicity, although no recent updates have been made.
