The upside of portable apps
This program is portable and therefore, the installation process becomes obsolete. In addition to that, unlike installers, it is not going to add new items to the hard drive or Windows registry without your approval, and it is not going to leave any kind of traces behind.
Another important aspect is that by moving the program files to a USB flash drive, you unlock the possibility of running Internet Down/Up Meter on any computer you can connect to, by simply clicking the EXE.
The interface is very simple, as it is comprised of a graphical representation of the download and upload speed, as well as a legend which explains the color-coding system. It becomes quite clear that all types of users can find their way around it, including those with little or no previous experience. Moreover, it can be rendered non-obtrusive at any point, by simply sending it to the system tray.
Bring up further information
By right-clicking the main window, you bring up a context menu which enables you to display process information, as well as sockets. When it comes to the latter, you can view details such as name, protocol, local port and IP, remote port and status, while the first one lets you see name, sent and received bytes, as well as send and received speed.
To conclude, Internet Down/Up Meter is an efficient piece of software when it comes to keeping track of your Internet traffic. It does not burden the computer’s performance as it uses minimal CPU and memory, the response time is good and we did not pick up on nay errors, crashes or freezes in our tests.
