With the help of CableMon you can monitor network traffic via LAN and view reports over a long period of time.
The GUI is made from a small, rectangular window where you can select the network connection to view the download, upload and total speed, average speed and traffic since the program's last startup, along with system uptime, total upload and download size.
You can also view a graphical representation of the sent and received packets, select the traffic mode (incoming, outgoing, total), toggle scaling to 16KB/s or Adaptive mode, and change the speed measuring unit (per second, minute or hour).
The report shows total uploaded, downloaded and total size over time , when it comes to the web, emails, FTP, file sharing, news, UDP, and other data types.
As far as program settings go, you can show data from the WinPCap driver in the main frame (else reported by the OS), enable autorun at system startup, ask CableMon to log incoming NULL data and to ping a host to ensure traffic, specify the connection maximum speed, as well as activate custom port traffic in the log.
We have noticed a minimum resources usage consumption during CableMon's runtime. It has a good reaction speed, displays accurate information and doesn't interrupt user activity when it is minimized to the system tray area. We have not come across any issues in our tests. Although it has not been updated for a while, CableMon works smoothly on newer operating systems.
