Jot down your thoughts in this straightforward app, which pairs a calendar function with journaling capabilities to bring you an interesting piece of software. #Virtual diary #Journal entry #Virtual journal #Journal #Diary #Notebook
Journaling your thoughts is a nice way to de-stress, but where can we do that? Of course, we're talking about having a digital journal of sorts, and not a physical one — though both are cool in their own ways. Most of us use our phones to jot things down when inspiration strikes, so what about our computers?
Notepad is alright, and so is the Sticky Notes built-in app, but what if you want something more catered to jotting things down? RedNotebook is a promising alternative, and it fuses a calendar functionality with note-taking capabilities to create an interestingly versatile app to have on your PC.
At its core, the program is quite simple: treat it as your virtual journal, and you'll feel right at home. The interface is simple to understand, and pretty much everything about it is self-explanatory: you have a calendar on the left side of the main interface, and a text box on the other.
Your journal syncs with the calendar, which means that what you write will be assigned to the current day. If you want to write something for a specific date, you can do so by selecting that date through the calendar. This helps a lot when one wants to reminisce about the days of old.
If you want a quick way to write about something, the available templates might be of use. Want to jot down what went down on your last journey? There's a template for that, which makes it easy to add a location, date, the participants, as well as add images. Meeting and Personal presets are also available, and you can of course create a template of your own if you wish.
Through the Insert menu, users can add photos, files, links, bullet lists, titles, headings, line breaks, and so forth. It's best to be orderly in your writing, and the tools here can help with that. As for quick shortcuts, the usual markdown ones will work just fine: Ctrl+B to bold, Ctrl+U to underscore, and so on.
This is quite a nifty program: pairing a calendar function with a journal is nothing new, but RedNotebook does it quite well.
