BigType

Struggling to meet a deadline means spending countless hours in front of the computer for research and typing. On a long term, this can have negative impact on your health.

To help prevent eye strain, you can use BigType. It's an incredibly easy-to-use Windows application that makes text bigger while you're typing it. This way, it spares you the trouble of moving closer to the screen and provides a workaround for text-based utilities which don't have a zooming function.

Installation is not necessary so you can unzip the downloaded archive and double-click the .exe to launch BigType right away. It can be stored in your collection of portable software and fired up whenever you need a magnifying glass while typing text, as well as saved to a USB flash drive and used on any machine without having to install anything.

The text enlarger becomes active as soon as the program is launched. To test this, you can open any application with text support and type something. If you want to temporarily disable BigType, it's not necessary to exit since it has a button for switching on and off. You can just minimize the window to the taskbar to get it out of your way while carrying out your typical PC activities.

You might be interested in configuring several settings for the text enlarger, such as the display time (default is 2 seconds), zoom depth (default is 2) and lens position (above on below the cursor instead of upon it).

There's also a handy option for resizing the magnifying lens by dragging the margins of a rectangle that shows its width and height in pixels in real time. The configuration can be restored to default anytime.
