Softpedia Editor's Review for Adobe Acrobat X Pro

Protect documents and accelerate information exchange with PDF
Written by Elena Opris on October 27th, 2011
PDF documents are always more sensitive to handle than in the case of other file types. If you wish to manipulate PDFs, then you need special software.
Adobe Acrobat X Pro is an office tool that lets you create a PDF, PDF form or PDF portolio, combine files into a PDF, and share them by using SendNow Online.
The installation can be set to either typical, complete or custom mode. The additional feature found in the full package is Adobe LiveCycle Designer - a graphical tool that enables you to create forms which can be filled for Acrobat, Adobe Reader and Adobe Server products.
Creating a PDF actually opens all supported formats (including images and multimedia files), and lets you save them as PDF documents. This is extremely useful if, for example, you want to capture a portion of a video and save it as an image (well, in this case, a PDF).
Creating a PDF Portofolio has five layouts to choose from: Click-Through, Freeform, Grid, Linear, and Wave. From the content point of view, the result of the presentation will be the same, no matter which layout you choose. The difference here lies in the visual effects.
After creating a presentation, you can view it in Adobe Acrobat X Pro, but to actually see the content, you have to extract each file from portofolio, or open it in Native Application.
There's also the ability to open multiple windows and have multiple projects running simultaneously.
The graphics are amazing in Adobe Acrobat X Pro. The developers have put an emphasis on animation effects, and the result is just great. Simple transitions and graphics, but very appealing.
In matter of a user-friendly interface, we have encountered some small navigational difficulties. For example, we took our time to find out that you can't actually view the contents of files in a PDF presentation. Moreover, creating a PDF form didn't work in our case.
The reaction time for each action is good, but not lightning-fast. This is probably due to the large animation details. CPU memory is fairly used.
All in all, Adobe Acrobat Pro is a pretty nice software which has its ups and downs. But it's definitely needed by most computer users.
