PDF Builder is a utility capable of creating PDF files from all kinds of documents supported by Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, Microsoft Visio, plain text, images (e.g. JPG, BMP, PNG) and AutoCAD.
The interface of the app is represented by a standard window with a simple-to-navigate layout, where you can import items into the working environment using either the file browser, tree view or "drag and drop" method. Batch processing is supported, so you can convert as many files as you want by creating a queue.
Several settings are provided for some file types when it comes to the PDF output. For instance, you can select the PPT, XLS and DOC page orientation (portrait or landscape), specify the sorting order for files included in a directory (by name, size or date, ascending or descending order), write the DOC or XLS password if the file is encrypted, as well as create a grid for XLS items.
Furthermore, you can remove an item from the list or clear the entire queue, as well as create a list of all items and save it to file for further scrutiny. However, PDF Builder lacks some important options. For example, you cannot change the default output directory for the new PDF items or for the list of files. In addition, you cannot preview file content within the main frame, or make the tool automatically open the output directory when all tasks are done.
PDF Builder uses a low-to-moderate quantity of CPU and system memory, has a good response time and carries out conversion jobs rapidly. It did not hang or crash during our evaluation. To sum it up, PDF Builder delivers quick solutions to creating PDF files from various types of documents, images and CAD drawings, but it lacks some important options for advanced users.
