PDF Editor

PDF Editor is a compact, lightweight and feature-limited application that you can use to insert text into existing PDF documents. Contrary to what its name implies, it does not let you edit or remove existing text, images or graphical elements.

Since installation is not a requirement, you can simply drop the executable file anywhere on the hard drive and click it to run. It is also possible to move PDF Editor to a USB flash disk or other storage unit, in order to run it on any computer without prior installers.

An aspect worth mentioning is that PDF Editor does not add new entries to the Windows Registry, Start menu or other area of the computer.

The interface of the application is based on a single window with a layout divided into two panels - one for displaying PDF content and the other for viewing text properties. Files can be imported into the working environment using only the file browser, since the drag-and-drop functionality is not featured.

Text properties include the transformation value, position, font, size, fill and stroke colors for each item in the document. You can zoom in and out of pages, edit document properties (producer, creator, subject, keywords, author), as well as view the PDF source in a plain text document.

In order to insert additional information into the content, you can click the dialog button, select the font name, size and emphasis mode, as well as write the text in question in the dedicated dialog. There are no other notable options provided by this app.

PDF Editor uses a pretty high amount of CPU and RAM, considering its limited abilities. It has a good response time and works well. We haven't come across any issues throughout our evaluation, since the app did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. However, other PDF editors are clearly more powerful than this one.
