Hekapad is a small and easy to use plain text editor that offers a few handy and interesting features.

The main window of the application is tabbed, allowing multiple documents to be open at the same time and features a neat, minimalistic design that makes it easy to use, intuitive and free of distractions. It enables users to complete various text editing tasks without getting bogged down in various, useless menus or controls.

The application can also be configured to keep its window on top (this behavior can even be toggled from the program's status bar), and users can set its opacity from 30% to 100%.

The application offers users a software solution suitable for editing code and various other plain text files.

Hekapad provides users with basic text formatting controls. One can select the font type and color to be used or align the text to the left, right or center.

Though the program does not support syntax highlighting, it can easily be associated with HTML, CSS, PHP, ASP, JS, ASP, XML, C, CPP and VB files. It also automatically keeps track of how many characters and words each document contains and supports a find and replace function.

The application also provides a few cryptographic tools, being able to encode or decode AES-256 custom-key encryption. These options are available from a dedicated menu.

Although the application is handy and features several interesting tolls and options, its lack of syntax highlighting make it unsuitable for real programming work. However, if you are just looking for a simple replacement for Microsoft Windows' built-in plain text editor, Hekapad offers useful added functions.
