Even though it's not exactly a looker, Notepad, a simplistic text editor which was launched with Windows 1.0 almost three decades ago, is still one of the most popular and arguably most useful apps. It's no wonder that it is still being shipped with recent versions of Windows since it's perfect for users who need to create documents quickly and without the need for formatting.

If you're regularly using Notepad, then you might be interested in trying out MyText, an attractive alternative that comes with all the bits and bobs as the program it's based on, but also with support for text encryption.

As it should be expected from a Notepad alternative, getting started with MyText is quite straightforward as it does not require any type of installation.

That said, please note that it's recommended to run the application as administrator for the first time so that it can successfully create all the necessary registry entries and file associations.

It features the same bare-bones user interface and straightforward layout as Notepad, but with the addition of a useful top toolbar that allows you to create new files, open already existing ones, save or print your current documents, as well as to copy, cut, paste selected text.

As mentioned at the start, the app allows you to encrypt your documents. When saving any document, you are provided with the option to choose one of two formats, namely TXT and ETXT. If you go for the latter, then you will also be prompted to enter and confirm an encryption key.

Taking everything into account, MyText is a no-frills utility that offers everything you would expect regarding functionality from a Notepad alternative with a bonus of protection thanks to its support for encrypted documents.
