Create and organize catalogs with music and other types of files by scanning local drives, removable devices, network locations, or optical discs. #Removable media indexer #Offline search #Disk cataloguer #Indexer #Cataloguer #Searcher
VVV (Virtual Volumes View)is a straightforward piece of software designed to help you keep track of your files whether they originate from the local hard drive, network locations, removable devices, or optical discs, by creating and managing a catalog.
It is mainly designed for audio tracks and it does not come equipped with complex features or customization options, making it accessible to all types of users.
After a brief and uneventful setup procedure that doesn't need special attention, you are greeted by a regular window with a plain and simple structure, representing VVV's interface.
You can create new catalogs and save them to .vvv-formatted files by pointing out a volume and name. The file scanning procedure may take a while, depending on the target size.
It is possible to explore directories, put together virtual folders with files, update the catalog with new items, toggle between physical, virtual and search viewing mode, as well as hide the toolbar and status bar.
What's more, you can connect to a network server if you want to access catalogs stored on it, exclude auto metadata from the indexing operation along with any type of audio data from display between artist, album, title, year, comment, track number, genre, length, bit rate, sample rate, and channel mode, as well as switch to another UI language.
There were no kind of stability issues throughout our evaluation, since VVV did not hang, crash or pop up error messages. It has a good response time to commands and runs on low CPU and RAM, so it shouldn't affect the overall performance of the computer.
Although it does not integrate a particularly rich set of features and configuration parameters, VVV offers a simple solution to organizing catalogs with files, especially when it comes to music.
What's new in VVV 1.5:
- Now in the File Information and Folder Information windows it is possible to copy to the clipboard the content of a row by pressing CTRL-C or by right-clicking with the mouse.
- Removed the New root folder context menu from the left pane in virtual mode. It is rarely used and it is still available from the main menu.
- Now the program remembers a search setting between All physical volumes and Selected physical folder. It does not remember the Selected virtual folder setting because at startup there is no selected virtual folder.
- Fixed a bug: the program crashed if the user cataloged a volume using an existing name.
