If you need to convert various international currencies and the Internet is not within reach, then you should use a third-party software solution, like Easy Currency Converter.

This small utility handles conversions through its main window, by means of two drop-down menus, one for each currency and two text boxes for entering the numbers. This way of inserting and outputting values may come in handy for users who want to use copy and paste.

Unfortunately, the utility's window is not resizable and the drop-down menus are fairly short, especially given the amount of currencies at its disposal. Luckily, the lists are arranged alphabetically, by the name of the country of origin, and you can quickly skip to a particular letter by pressing it on your keyboard.

The program is able to calculate the value of over 200 currencies, but there is no mention of the source of the rates. This may be a substantial problem for users who rely on decimal precision. Moreover, you can't change the provider of the rates to one you are more comfortable with.

Another issue is the fact that, while present in the drop-down menu, some currencies don't offer any rate of exchange, essentially nullifying its listing.

Easy Currency Converter stores the exchange rates on your hard disk, so even without a permanent Internet connection you are able to perform calculations. It offers a handy shortcut to your system's calculator, in case you need to apply a formula before inserting the value in the utility.

Updating your local database is performed with ease, by simply clicking the Update button. After a short delay, the program notifies you if the refresh was carried out successfully or not.

Overall, the program is useful for light conversions. Sadly, the fact that it does not mention where the exchange rates data is downloaded from, or the inability to choose your own source might force users to find alternatives.
