AlgeBasics description
|
Facilitates the teaching and learning of basic algebra
AlgeBasics covers the teaching, learning and testing of basic algebra, including algebraic expressions, such as: · addition and subtraction of algebraic terms such as 3x, 3ab, 6a2, etc · multiplication and division of algebraic terms · removal of brackets for simplifying expressions e.g. 6a - (-2b) = 6a + 2b · order of calculations
AlgeBasics will help you understand concepts and provide plenty of practice, with immediate feedback so you know whether you've got the sum right the moment you key in your answer. Some of our programs such as AlgeXpansion, AlgeFactors, QuadEquations, SimulEquations and SigniFigures can even help you do your homework!
AlgeBasics is designed for secondary one school level - 12 years old students and above.
Here are some key features of "AlgeBasics":
Tutorial:
· Introduces the rules for basic algebra - the multiplication and division of algebraic terms, followed by the concept of addition and subtraction. Teaches the easy way to remove brackets. The methods can be applied to all sums, both easy and complicated ones, unlike some methods which are only suitable for simple sums.
· Simple mental exercises at the end of each session help to strengthen the concepts learnt. It also teaches addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of algebraic fractions and indices.
Practice:
· AlgeBasics is capable of generating thousands of sums on algebraic expressions, algebraic fractions or indices for drills to ensure that the student masters these very important basic skills in algebra.
Algebraic Expressions:
· It includes sums on addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, order of calculations, removal of brackets and simple indices such as 2b2 x 5c x 3b.
· The sums get progressively more difficult if a student is doing well. If a student is doing badly, the numbers will be kept simple to let him focus on the concepts.
Algebraic Fractions:
· Includes addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of algebraic fractions. Simplifying algebraic fractions by cancelling and removal of brackets.
Indices:
· Includes addition, subtraction and multiplication of positive and negative indices and miscellaneous sums requiring a combination of these methods.
Worked Examples:
· More than 200 worked examples provide help for students who have difficulty in doing the sums.
Reports:
· You can print out a report at the end of each practice session. The report shows each sum with its correct answer and the student's answer marked. It also includes the percentage score, the average time taken to do each sum and other details.
Test Module:
· You can get a test paper ready in a few minutes - simply with a few clicks of the mouse. A test can include questions from one or more topics. The setter can specify whether the questions for each candidate will appear in different orders.
· The setter can also decide to have the printouts of all candidates appear in the same order for easy checking. If the duration of a test is indicated, the computer will automatically stop the test when the time is up. The duration of the test can be left blank for the time to be controlled by the examiner during the test.
Sitting for a Test:
· Candidates sit for the test using the computer. The moment he finishes his work, it is marked and a copy of the answer script can be saved or printed out.
Checking Answer Scripts:
· Answer scripts will be displayed with the marks for easy recording and checking.
Special Features:
· Unlike some other programs, AlgeBasics is able to accept alternative correct answers. For example, 1x+2y or x + 2y or 2y + 1x or 2y + x or 2y+x, etc will all be marked as correct for the standard answer x + 2y.
· This feature is very important because it avoids confusing the student if a correct answer is marked as wrong.
· It allows two players to compete with each other on one computer, reducing the number of computers required for a class by half.
· Each player can do the sums at his own pace.
· It prints two separate detailed reports, each showing the sums done by the individual player. Sums on algebraic fractions and indices are displayed in easy-to-read textbook style.
