FreeBalalaikaNotes is an educational software solution designed to provide you with a virtual environment to learn and recognize the notes on the balalaika chords, by simulating the instrument and its specific sound signature. Hence, you are able to pluck any of the achievable notes and hear the difference between them, before practicing on your own instrument.

In order to control the strings, you can use the mouse to play the desired notes, either by clicking on the actual chords, or by making use of the available sheet. Each time a note is selected, the application displays its name as well and you can also change between semitones, to achieve sound variations.

Once you are confident enough that you can recognize and hit every note, you can enter the training mode and put your knowledge to the test. Thus, the application highlights a chord on the instrument and you have to select the appropriate note from the list of available options, scoring points for every right answer.

Since there is no time limit, the quiz can go on for as long as you wish and it can be stopped whenever you want to. At the end, you have the option to view a report detailing your overall answers, which offers you statistics about your accuracy when it comes to recognizing the requested notes.
