An educational software utility that enables you to tune your Dombra, by choosing from a wide array of predefined pitches and sounds

editor's review

Musical instruments may sound better when left in the hands of talented people, but regardless of who's playing them, they still need to be tuned in order to produce the desired sound. Hence, although the operation can be achieved manually, you can also employ the help of a computer application, in case you want to obtain specific pitches or find new ways to tune your instrument.

Tune your Dobra in a few easy steps

FreeDombraTuner is a software utility that enables you to experiment with new sounds for your Dobra, by offering you a wide array of tuning options and various pitches used around the world. All of the provided tunings can be listened and tested inside the application, so that you can choose the one that best fits your purposes.

The list of pitch modes is comprised of a multitude of styles, each one taken from a specific time period or region. Thus, you can make your Dombra sound as it does in the Boston Symphony Orchestra, or toy around with the Renaissance and Scientific pitches to obtain the effect you are looking for. Beside the already mentioned settings, you can also opt for the Baroque, France1859 and Concert pitches, as well as a few others.

Hear the modifications on-the-fly

As you might expect, the utility can only be used for educational purposes, since you still have to manually adjust your instrument to obtain the desired pitch. However, the application does provide you with sound samples for each mode, so that you can hear how it should sound and apply the modifications to your own Dobra.

Beside the two buttons that can be used to pluck the chords of the instrument, you can also make use of the repeat function. With the help of this tool, you can keep repeating the same note as you perform the tuning operation, as well as clearly notice the difference when you switch between pitches.

A lightweight, but useful Dombra tuner

All in all, FreeDombraTuner can come in handy if you need help tuning your Dombra, especially if you are on the lookout for new styles and sounds for your instrument. In addition, the simple and intuitive user-interface allows anyone to take full use of its functions, without any previous experience required.
