MRIcro is a lightweight Windows utility built specifically for helping you open and analyze medical images.
The GUI seems a bit crowded at a first glance but this is only because the application comes packed with many configuration settings. Unfortunately, it lacks a help manual, and it may prove to be difficult to understand the function of each built-in feature.
MRIcro gives users the possibility to add files by using the built-in browse function or the “drag and drop” support. It work with the the following file formats HDR, NII, CUB, HEAD, PNG, BMP, TIF, or JPEG.
The application allows users to view a histogram, pick the transparency level, adjust the color scheme, create 3D regions of interest, overlap multiple regions of interest, rotate images to match the SPM template images, and convert medical images to SPM file format.
Other important features worth mentioning let you create headers and insert additional information about them (e.g. notes, patient ID, scan number, errors), and adjust the level of brightness.
When it comes to exporting options, you can save the generated project to an image file or print it. Plus, you can convert 3D items to a single 4D file.
To sum things up, MRIcro comes in handy especially for medical experts or students who need to analyze medical images quickly and with minimum effort. On the downside, the entire process is not very intuitive and rookies may spend some trying to configure the dedicated parameters.
