Speak N Spell

Speak N Spell is a small Windows application built specifically for helping you improve your English spelling skills by taking some tests where you have to write the words pronounced by the computer.

It comes in handy especially for students who want to practice their English spelling abilities or for teachers who need to carry out interactive assignments.

Since this is a portable program, it is important to mention that it doesn’t leave any traces in the Windows Registry.

You can copy it on any USB flash drive or other devices, and take it with you whenever you need to learn how to spell words correctly on the fly, without having to go through installation steps.

Speak N Spell gives you the possibility to make the application speak a random word aloud, repeat the current item, as well as reveal the word in case you do not manage to identify it. You need to write the spoken word and then press the “Enter” button to check out if you have provided the right or wrong answer.

What’s more, you are allowed to copy the current entry to the clipboard for creating a useful list with new words that you need to learn, choose the level of difficulty (easy, medium, hard, hardest, or mixed), turn on or off the sound notifications (applause), and use hotkeys for triggering several actions (they cannot be reassigned).

Last but not least, you can maintain the built-in dictionary by adding or deleting words, as well as loading the information from a plain text file. On the downside, you are not allowed to switch between different voices and alter the volume.
