Dictionary for the visually impaired

editor's review

A dictionary is useful to have around as you can always find new words that you’re not sure about their meaning. Talking Dictionary is a tool that was designed specifically for people who have visual difficulties and those that have physical disabilities.

The program has a simple interface that should be easy to figure out, thanks to the intuitive layout.

As mentioned, the program enables users to lookup various words and reads aloud the typed words. There are several keyboard shortcuts that enable users to trigger various features that come with this program, namely the F keys.

For instance, the F1 reads the word, while F2 reads the summary and F3 the definitions. While the instructions are available on the app’s interface they can also be read aloud by clicking the “Keys” button on the interface.

The app comes with several customization options. For instance, you can enable the tab navigable controls and the dictionary speech, as well as the verbose mode. The program’s frame can be set to always be on top of other apps.

Since the utility was designed with a specific group of people in mind, it also comes with a Wizard that can help them set up the dictionary on their own.

The bottom line is that Talking Dictionary is a nice program that can be quite helpful. Inexperienced individuals shouldn’t have any troubles while installing and customizing it, thanks to its overall simplicity.
