ViewGene is an intuitive and effective piece of software designed to offer you the ability of displaying the contents of GEDCOM files, enabling you to analyze your family ancestors on your Windows 8 device.

The application features a very simple and straightforward user interface, making it easy to handle by anyone, regardless of the prior knowledge in working with similar tools.
The start screen of ViewGene allows you to opt between opening a locally stored GEDCOM file or determining the functions of the program using a built-in sample file.
Open and analyze GEDCOM files
After loading your GED format file into the utility, you can view all the members of the family tree, from first to last, including the offspring, the file editor's name, as well as everyone’s date of birth. In order to closely analyze an individual, you can click on their entry and the tool will display their genealogical tree, enabling you to zoom in or out, according to your needs.
The options bar allows you to display the tree in ‘Full Screen’ mode, useful particularly if you are working with a very complex diagram. Moreover, you can view a ‘Timeline’ of the person, showing the overlap period with the lives of other relatives.
At the same time, ViewGene features a ‘Map’ function which lets you determine the geographical position and the degree of spatial proximity between various ancestors, using a map of the Earth.
