GEDCOM Viewer is a software app with a pretty self-explanatory name - it lets you view the content of Genealogical Data Communication files (GEDCOM), namely files with the GED format. It can be seamlessly handled, even by rookies.
The interface of the tool is made from a standard window with a fairly intuitive layout. When opening a GEDCOM file from the computer, GEDCOM Viewer creates a fast lookup table but doesn't make any modifications to the file's content; all you have to do is select a person from the database.
So, you can check out the genealogical tree along with the siblings, spouses and children, as well as copy the document's summary, details, notes or any record to the Clipboard for further use.
In addition, you can use a search function to quickly find and select a person from the tree, which is particularly useful when you're dealing with large amounts of data. It is also possible to rebuild the index for the current file, in case any updates have been made to it in the meantime.
GEDCOM Viewer has a good response time, contains user documentation and runs on a very low quantity of system memory and CPU, so it does not affect the computer's overall performance. We have not experienced any problems in our testing, since the program did not hang, crash or display error notifications. Thanks to its limited and intuitive features, GEDCOM Viewer should be easy to figured out even by the less experienced audience.
