VT Hash Check

VT Hash Check is a simple-to-use Windows application that helps you compare the checksum of any file to the VirusTotal.com database, in order to find out whether the item has been marked positive for viruses or not.

The setup procedure does not take a long time to finish, nor require special attention from the user. From this point on, VT Hash Check becomes available in the context menu of any file type.

Provided that an API key is defined in the settings window to access the VirusTotal database, VT Hash Check identifies the item's checksum and rapidly runs a virus scan, displaying results after a short amount of time.

As far as configuration goes, the program also lets you modify the default search engine and give it a name, specify a comment signature for VirusTotal, as well as save all logs to a user-defined location in plain text, CSV, Original JSON, or Unpacked JSON format. Apart from the MD5 hash, the tool may also calculate the SHA1 counterpart.

As expected, the tool has minimal impact on PC performance, since it runs on low CPU and memory. We have not come across any kind of issues throughout our testing, since the software utility did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs.

VT Hash Check provides a simple solution to verifying any file for malware by looking into the VirusTotal database, based on the item's MD5 or SHA1 signature. It can be handled with ease by anyone.
