gnuVocabTrain Portable is a software tool designed in Java, in order to help you improve your German language skills, as well as test them.

This utility does not require installation, as it represents the portable counterpart of gnuVocabTrain. This means that you can easily drop the program files to any location on the hard drive and click the executable to run it from there. Aside from that, by placing the last mentioned files to a USB flash drive, you are able to use gnuVocabTrain Portable on any computer you have access to.

There are two types of games you can access. In the first one you are required to enter a translation for a provided word (from English to Deutsch or the other way around), while the second game requires you to match two cards with the same meaning.

It is possible to create an unlimited number of profiles, so that multiple users can keep separate scores. In addition to that, the program’s color (hue and saturation) can be customized, backups of vocabulary lists can be created and color-coded statistics can be generated, along with information such as number of times practiced, correctly answered questions and date of last practice.
