Softpedia Editor's Review for Portable Firefox

A fully functional package of Firefox optimized for use on a USB key drive

Written by Elena Opris on November 7th, 2011

If you're a fierce geek or just very interested in the computer department, then you're probably one of the many people who like to carry at least one USB flash drive everywhere they go.

This USB flash drive probably contains the most important files and folders, including your favorite music, schedule, to-do list, and a few software kits.

Shouldn't a web browser join that collection? This way, you get to keep the settings of the browser you use at home, without having to install anything in a friend's computer or at work.

Portable Firefox is a light version of the all-known Mozilla Firefox, that can be placed on a USB flash drive or other external device, and taken everywhere with you.

This version still has Firefox's features, like add-ons and automatic updates (after Firefox asks you to confirm them), but you can also launch a private browsing session in order to clear any traces you leave behind (e.g. cookies, history).

What must be mentioned is that this portable version requires less amount of system memory than the standard Mozilla Firefox, but extensions seem to take longer to install.

Also, Portable Firefox refuses to launch itself if another version of Mozilla Firefox (which is not portable) is running (you just have to close the browser window).

To sum things up, if you want to get the best out of your Mozilla Firefox even when you're not using your personal computer, then get Portable Firefox, copy it on your USB flash drive, configure it according to your preferences, and enjoy!
