Portable PopTray

Portable PopTray is an email checker that can work with multiple POP3 accounts. Despite the small size, the application shows plenty of configuration options that allow you easy handling of incoming messages.

The program is based on a very well-organized GUI, with just a tabbed window that takes care of both the email checking task and the configuration job.

As soon as an account is created PopTray is ready to list new inbox messages in an abbreviated form, which contains the subject, the date and size of the email as well as sender’s information. However, previewing is also an option. The application is also capable to launch your default email client for more advanced tasks.

Among the features of the application there is the possibility to automatically delete messages from the server, without downloading them. This can be accomplished based on user-defined rules that rely on keywords available in specific areas of the message: header, from field, subject, etc.

The actions available are not restricted to deleting the message and include options like marking as spam, playing a sound, file execution or generating a visual alert.

Customization options let you set the frequency for checking each account, define the action for each mouse-button for the system tray icon or the hotkeys for easy handling of the application. You can create blacklists to specify the addresses you do not want to receive message from.

There is also the possibility to create a whitelist. Messages received from addresses on this list are not deleted, even if there is a rule.

Although it works with POP3 accounts by default, there is also support for other protocols, such as IMAP4 or POP3SSL, through plugins.

Portable PopTray makes for a fine email notification utility, especially since it has a negligible impact on system performance.
