Portable CHReader

CHReader is a portable piece of kit with a very simple purpose: it can create archives from multiple and related HTML files, which can be easily loaded in the web browser in optimized form. It contains just the necessary and suffice elements to do this, so it doesn't have any complicated settings.

Since there is no installation involved, you can save the program files in any part of the disk or on a removable storage unit, in order to directly launch CHReader on any computer to compress web files. An important aspect worth noting is that, unlike most installers, it doesn't create new entries in the Windows registry or Start menu, so it doesn't leave any traces behind after removal.

Represented by a large window that shows descriptions with how CHReader works, the interface is user-friendly. It lets you specify the source folder which has to include an index.html file at the root level, since this item will be automatically recognized by the app to prepare it for compression.

In the next steps, all you have to do is enter the preferred name for the archive, and click a button to compress files immediately. CHReader creates the archive in the same location as the source, and this option cannot be changed. Its length can be up to 4GB.

THe utility worked well in our tests, without triggering the OS to hang, crash or display error messages. It had a good response time and minimal impact on PC performance, running on low CPU and RAM. On the other hand, CHReader doesn't have richer options and customization settings. Nevertheless, you can test it for yourself, since it's free.
