Portable SecureWAMP

This is the portable edition of SecureWAMP, a WAMP-based application that enables programmers and web developers to easily install, start and stop Apache and PHP, along with the MySQL, FileZilla FTP, and Mercury/32 Mail servers, among others.

Since installation is not necessary, you can put the program directory in any part of the hard disk and just click the executable to run.

It is also possible to save SecureWAMP to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.

An important aspect to take into account is that the Windows registry and Start menu are not updated with new entries, so there are no traces left behind after the app's removal.

The app adopts a classic interface that lets users immediately dive into the main features. The first step is installing each server by specifying details like port number, security level (e.g. developer mode), account credentials, and host name.

Once the modules are installed, they can be easily stopped and restarted with the click of a button, as well as configured. Extra add-ons can be installed, namely Python, Perl, SQLite Database Browser and MySQL Workbench.

As far as app configuration are concerned, SecureWAMP can be set to automatically run at system startup. You can use proxies, change the UI theme, and disable help hints, among others.

SecureWAMP has a good response time and leaves a minimal footprint on system resources, using low CPU and memory. We have not come across any issues throughout our evaluation, since the app did not hang, crash or pop up error messages. The tool gets the job done and can be easily handled.
