While a color picker is not included in Windows, there are plenty of third-party utilities that you can turn to, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a program that suits your needs.

ColorPicker is small, open-source application that makes it easy to select a certain color from anywhere on your desktop and extract its Hex or RGB color code. It is easy to use and does not require installation.

Since it is not necessary to go through a setup process before using the program, it can be deployed effortlessly. You just need to unpack the archive and launch the executable file, and you don’t need to be concerned about any temporary files being left behind.

If you need a quick way to grab a color code from your desktop or a certain application, this utility can certainly get the job done.

Once you have launched the application, you will see that the area around the mouse cursor is now magnified and displayed in the main window. The UI color also changes based on the selected pixel.

When you have found the right color, you can press alt and left-click the pixel to lock the selection. It is, however, still possible to make small adjustments using the arrow keys.

Both the Hex and RBG color codes are displayed in the main window, and you can copy them to the clipboard manually. It would help, however, if there was an easier way to extract them.

The application stays on top of all other windows, making it easier to select the right color when working with several other programs. However, there is no way to hide the application, either by minimizing it or sending it to the system tray.

ColorPicker is a useful tool that can come in handy if you frequently need to extract color codes from your desktop. It could use some improvements, but it is very easy to use, as well as fully portable.
