This is the portable edition of ClipMon, a feature-rich application that records all items copied to the Windows Clipboard, namely text, images and files. It sits comfortably in the system tray until called upon.
Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can put the program files in any part of the hard disk and run the executable directly.
There is also the alternative to save ClipMon to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers. What's more, the tool does not create new entries in the Windows registry.
Once initialized, the tool immediately starts capturing all clips and puts them in a separate window with Clipboard history, classifying them by type: text, images or files.
When it comes to text clips, you can view the caption, document name, size, program, and date of modification for each entry. It is possible to alter any of these fields and to open clips in a text editor. Multiple scripts can be executed for text, like a text-to-speech tool, spellchecker (requires Microsoft Word), encryption and decryption, along with conversion to a numbered or bulleted list.
Formatting options are available as well, such as increasing or decreasing the indent, and text background color customization. You can also use a search function to locate particular clips. They can be exported to RTF, TXT (regular or Unicode) or HTML format.
As for image clips, they can be opened in the default graphic editor, filtered by creator, as well as zoomed in and out. Meanwhile, information on copied files includes the content (total folders and files in one clip), size, and modified date. Similar to text clips, a search function is available for files. Plus, you can change the list viewing mode to report, icon or thumbnail.
In terms of program configuration, it is possible to specify the maximum number of text, image and file clips to keep, set global hotkeys for showing the history browser menu and text-clips popup menu, edit font options for all list views, as well as ask ClipMon to automatically run at system startup.
The tool is pretty intuitive to learn. It is very responsive to commands and has minimal impact on PC performance, using low CPU and RAM. There were no issues throughout our evaluation. ClipMon minimizes to the tray to become non-intrusive. It provides some very useful options when recording text, image and file clips to history.
