This is a portable version for Checksum Control, a small-sized app that aims to verify and create SFV and MD5 checksums.
Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can extract the program files to any location on the hard disk and just click the executable to run.
Another possibility is to save Checksum Control to a pen drive or similar mass storage device, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no prior installers.
The tool does not create new entries in the Windows registry or Start menu, leaving the disk clean after removal.
The interface is made from an intuitive wizard, where you have to follow a few simple steps to get the job done in no time.
The first stage is selecting the task between checking or creating an SFV or MD5 hash. In case of verification, it is required to load a checksum file and select the checking mode between quick (only files that have not been previously verified) or full. Results shows all passes, failed, skipped and missing files, plus the ones with errors (if any).
When creating an SFV or MD5 signature, you can point out a directory and indicate files to skip from checking, as well as establish a file name pattern (e.g. automatic, custom).
There are many program settings that can be adjusted. For example, it is possible to select the readbuffer size, enable the writing of MD5 hashes with separators, change the UI language, as well as customize sounds for various events.
Checksum Control uses low CPU and RAM, so it does not hog system resources. We have not come across any issues in our evaluation. It comprises a rich set of options and configuration parameters for advanced users when it comes to verifying and creating SFV and MD5 checksums.
