This is the portable counterpart of HashCompare, a simple-to-use software program that can help you compare the MD5, SHA1 or SHA256 checksums between two files of any format, in order to find out whether their content is identical or not.
As there is no installation involved, you can put the app files in any part of the HDD and just click the executable to run.
There is also the possibility to save HashCompare to a USB flash disk or other mass storage device, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no prior installers.
An important aspect to take into account is that the Windows registry does not get updated with new entries, and no extra files are created on the disk without your consent, thus HashCompare does not leave traces behind after its removal.
The GUI consists of a single window that presents all options in an orderly fashion. Any two files can be pointed out using the file browser or drag-and-drop support. All you have to do is select the hash type between MD5, SHA1 and SHA256, and let HashCompare take care of the rest.
View checksums and export data
Results should immediately appear on the screen. These include the type and signature for each of the two files, along with HashCompare's verdict: identical, or not identical. Data can be exported to TXT, HTML or XML format for closer inspection and safekeeping.
The tool is very light on the system resources, using low CPU and RAM. We have not come across any issues throughout our tests, as HashCompare did freeze, crash or pop up error messages. It rapidly calculates and displays file checksums, and can be handled by all types of users.
