As the app is portable, you just decompress the archive, launch the tool and start exploring how the space is being used. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the app displays the largest users at the top in real-time.

The application presents this information in a clear and organized manner, making it easy for users to identify large files and directories that may be contributing to disk space issues. Each time I click on an item, I can learn its name, path, size, various attributes and the date when it was last modified.

Based on this information, you can take proactive steps to address storage inefficiencies, such as deleting unnecessary files, archiving large files, or moving files to alternative storage locations.

You can get started by selecting the directory or drive you want to explore. I choose the APPDATA directory, but you can opt to scan entire drives or specific folders that you typically store or move files. As expected, the search results show that the data there includes files and cache needed by my browsers and other Microsoft apps I’m commonly using.

The data is displayed in a treemap, so it’s easy to navigate and see how those GB of data are actually being used. If you come across files or other app remains that should have been long gone from your PC, then you can delete them directly from within the app.

You can configure the type of data to be displayed in the UI by accessing the Configure Columns from the View menu. Simply select the type of information to be displayed in Portable TreeSize Free, so that you distinguish apps and files easier.
