The TWAIN Integration Kit from JSE Imaging Solutions provides an alternative to the conventional integration of TWAIN functionality into your Windows programs. Conventional development: you plough through the TWAIN documentation of the TWAIN developer group, you program your own routines to communicate with TWAIN, integrate them into your program and then debug it. For this work, the TWAIN developer group estimates 20 man-days for a programmer. You know what a programmer costs you for 20 days, and how much work has to be neglected in the time when s/he is working on TWAIN. But now you have the chance to drastically reduce the time and therefore the cost of a TWAIN implementation.

With the TWAIN Integration Kit, TWAIN can be integrated into MS Windows programs in less than a single day. The conventional implementation also require a C compiler and C knowledge. The TIK supports most of the Windows development environments.At the heart of the TWAIN Integration Kit is a DLL containing all the functions you require to address the scanner, digital camera and all other input devices equipped with a TWAIN driver. Apart from relevant programming experience, no further knowledge is required, making TWAIN a child’s game. And technically, this is all state-of-the-art, since JSE Imaging Solutions has been in TWAIN technology since the very beginning. TWAIN is the industrial standard for scanner support under MS Windows. If you support TWAIN with your Windows application, you can be sure it will operate with scanners from all leading manufacturers. Driver problems will be a thing of the past. New scanners with TWAIN drivers are supported immediately. Obviously, an application which operates with scanners etc. needs a TWAIN interface. And although the effort involved in a single TWAIN integration is much less than developing a driver for each scanner, you still need 20 man-days for a conventional TWAIN integration. Forget it! With the TWAIN Integration Kit (TIK), you can integrate TWAIN in less than a day - in certain cases, in less than an hour.

The TIK consists basically of a DLL containing a modest number of easy-to-use functions. Only this DLL has to be delivered in addition to the program. Examples in various program languages such as C, C++, Visual Basic, Delphi and Pascal demonstrate how you integrate TWAIN into programs which already exist or are still under development. All Windows development environments such as MS-Visual C++, Visual Basic and Delphi are supported.For image databases and customer-specific solutions, the function scope of the Standard Edition is normally sufficient. For OCR, archiving and professional image-processing programs, we recomment the Professional Edition of the TIK. The Standard Edition supports all three TWAIN transfer modes: native, memory and file. Only the low-level functions of the TIK, such as the query whether the automatic paper-feed contains paper, are not contained in the Standard Edition. The TIK function overview shows which functions are available in the two editions. You can upgrade from the Standard Edition to the Professional Edition for a year without any price disadvantage.

The TIK support all devices with a TWAIN driver for Microsoft Windows. As not all TWAIN drivers support all capabilities of the TWAIN specification some functions may limited with some TWAIN devices. The Compatibility List (PDF) just includes the devices that we have tested in our lab. Also other TWAIN compliant devices will run with the TIK.
