Web design, or even building an interface isn't just picking the right elements and textures to build the target template. On the contrary, visual elements need to be well measured so they don't overlap, or exit the view screen. In this regard, on-screen ruler comes as a lightweight tool, but with heavy practicality.
Once setup is over, there's the chance to have it launched so you can check out the set of features. As expected, a ruler shows up on your screen, with the possibility to move it across the desktop, and even adjust length or height by simply dragging borders around. The associated context menu is used to close it, or access the settings panel.
By default, a horizontal ruler is brought on the desktop, with the only adjustment on the spot being length. It's a good idea to pay a visit to the options menu for more tweaking options. Here, under the calibrate tab, it's possible to select the units to use, with items for centimeter, inch, pixel, percentage of screen, as well as pica.
However, calibration is a bit more than just picking the type of units. In case you want to use custom ones, you can increase or decrease the distance between marks, and return to default configuration at the press of a button. Sadly, there's no possibility to save custom presets in order to create new dimensions for easier design techniques.
Heading over to the appearance tab lets you set orientation in case you need a vertical ruler. If you want more rulers, just run other instances of the application. Aesthetics can be customized in terms of color for background, ticker, font, and border. You can adjust overall transparency, and even remove the background to skeletonize.
All things considered, we can state that on-screen ruler is sure to come in handy if your daily routine involves designing interfaces, or web templates. Multiple instances can be launched to have more rulers, each with its own set of configuration options, which refer to both calibration, and aesthetics.
