Working with Excel, could, depending on the scope and intended purpose, at some time involve the need and use of flowcharts. These are highly useful for conveying processes and other project aspects into graphical form, for better comprehension. Aside from the built-in flowchart creator that is found in Excel’s innards, users can manually create their own flowcharts, or, rely on dedicated apps for that, such as yFlowGen.

This add-in was designed specifically in order to offer users a way to create custom flowcharts, by involving the use of C and C++ programming languages for inputting the required parameters, and it will yield a corresponding GML output file.

The main usage principle involves the Command Line Interface, which, when prompted, will allow users to choose from a range of pre-defined parameters and commands in order to generate their preferred flowcharts.

For the execution, users will need to add the executable path, as well as the corresponding C# source files, which contain the parameters that are required for rendering. As a consequence of this process, the application produces a log, which contains all the steps and potential errors that can be encountered during the flowchart generation process.
