Command-line application that simplifies the registration of COM DLLs across platforms, using low system resources, catering to power users

editor's review

Regsvr64 is a simple command-line application that enables users to easily register COM DLL files in a correct manner. It includes just a few options that simplifies the entire registration procedure.

Setting up the program does not take a long time nor effort. Toward the end of the installation procedure, it is possible to add Regsvr64 to the system path.

In order to use this app, you have to call its process from a Command Prompt dialog. The DLL item you want to registed must be placed in the same directory as the executable file.

Supported commands include unregistering the server, enabling silent mode to hide all message boxes, as well as calling the DLLInstall or DLL uninstall function. There are no other options provided by this utility.

As expected, Regsvr64 runs on a very low amount of CPU and RAM, so it does not hinder the overall performance of the PC. It carries out a task quickly. If it is used on a 32-bit Windows and a 64-bit DLL is passed, it will be ignored.

While most users prefer a graphical interface for performing operations, some would rather input just a few lines in a Command Prompt dialog to get the job done faster and with minimum effort. Power users should find Regsvr64 easy to work with.

On the downside, the software utility has not been updated for a while. There is also a portable edition available, in case you want to bypass the installer and run Regsvr64 directly.
