One of the basic and most commonly used methods of securing any kind of file is to equip it with a password. This comes in very handy when you have to work with classified documents, but you need to remember it in order to be able to access content. For unforeseen situations, applications like Access Password let you retrieve or check security keys for a Microsoft Office suite component, namely Access.
The application comes in a lightweight package and is deployed on your system in the blink of an eye. What's more, it can run on a wide array of configurations since it only requires little system resources to properly run.
In terms of presentation and first impression, the application's design is clean and highly-intuitive. The main screen is mostly made up of a real-time updating log, which you can either discard or save individual entries to a plain text file.
Unfortunately, the only way in which you can import files is through the dedicated file menu, with no support for drag and drop. What's more, the application supports a decent amount of formats such as MDE, MDB, ACCDB and more, with no hint in the file menu explorer.
The only way to find out is to take a lucky guess or bring up the help manual, which mostly comes in handy in this regard. Another disadvantage is that version support does not cover databases created with editions later than 2003.
On the other hand, result is instantly generated once you decide upon the target file. A new window is brought up, displaying the password in a dedicated field, with a button to quickly copy it to your clipboard.
Additional database object security information can be accessed from a dedicated tab in the same window, displaying an organized list of objects with their corresponding owners. In terms of export, the only implemented option is for files under the CSV format.
All things considered, we can safely state that Access Password might not be the best option when it comes to retrieving lost passwords or checking them for Access databases. Sure, the job is properly done and fast, with little accommodation time required, but lack of support for latest iterations leaves a little something to be desired overall.
